In 2017 Nexus was asked to complete a relatively unusual classification exercise for the Department of Commerce: the review of the classification level of an employee seconded to a special office to assist a political office holder (for example a Minister of the Crown, Parliamentary Secretary or Leader of the Opposition). This review process was governed by Section 75(3) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and required compliance with a set of specific requirements. Our consultant worked closely with the client to review various submissions, conduct interviews with the employee and senior agency staff and analyse a range of information against the legislation and relevant Department of the Premier and Cabinet procedures. Our determination was presented in a substantial report which was subsequently endorsed.
