In 2019, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet engaged The Nexus Network to explore and trial innovative recruitment processes. Three senior roles were involved in the trial (two Directors and one Deputy Director). A number of stretch targets and reform ideas were trialled, all of which met the Public Sector Standard on Employment and had been assessed as having high predictive validity. Ultimately, all three positions were filled using a variety of traditional and innovative selection techniques. An evaluation of the trial processes found them to be effective (in that they resulted in the appointment of high performing individuals), fair (in that they gave applicants with different backgrounds the opportunity to be considered for the roles and resulted in a mix of internal and external appointees) and efficient (in that they were completed in a timely way.) In addition, honest and constructive feedback was provided to both successful and unsuccessful candidates.
